St. Cloud State University alumnus and adjunct professor Tim Johnson ’11 ’13 appeared on the popular game show “Wheel of Fortune” on Nov. 7, taking home nearly $40,000 in cash and prizes.
Johnson has taught in the Department of Mass Communications since 2014, and he also works as a Recruitment Marketing Specialist for CentraCare.
The Air Force veteran competed on the first episode of “Veterans Week” on the show.
Johnson won $11,000 for completing “Planes, Parachutes and Paratroopers” in the “Same Letter” category and $5,750 for guessing “Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez” in the “Husband and Wife” category to take an early lead.
He also won big in the “Fun and Games” category, going on a run to accumulate $13,500 for solving “Sailing a Catamaran” that also netted him a Caribbean vacation worth $7,500.
A late win in the toss up round boosted his overall total to $39,750, advancing to the bonus round more than $30,000 ahead of his two fellow contestants.
Johnson wasn’t able to solve the bonus puzzle of “Private Driveway”, which would’ve netted him an additional $40,000.
Host Pat Sajak had high praise for Johnson throughout the episode, noting how Johnson had huge spins of $2,500, $3,500 and $5,000 (twice), the three largest amounts on the wheel.
