Christine Mitchell will take on a new role in Alnwick after teaching for over 40 years.
After teaching the semester program at St. Cloud State at Alnwick for more than 40 years, Christine Mitchell is departing from her role with St. Cloud State at Alnwick in Alnwick, England.
Over the Thanksgiving holiday, St. Cloud State University President Robbyn Wacker, Associate Vice President for International Studies Shahzad Ahmad, students, alumni, faculty and guests celebrated and honored Christine Mitchell during the annual Thanksgiving Dinner Celebration hosted in the Alnwick Gardens Pavilion.
During the celebration, President Wacker made remarks about her relationship to the program and then presented Mitchell with a St. Cloud State blanket as well as red and white roses to symbolize the Tudor Rose. The Tuder Rose is symbolic as it relates to the history lesson that Mitchell has taught for over 40 years relating to the War of the Roses.
The longest-serving faculty member with the St. Cloud State at Alnwick program, Mitchell has taught over 4,000 students in Alnwick. During her 41 years with the program, Mitchell has held a few different roles. Her main focus over the years was teaching British History courses to students, while also leading many field trips showcasing sites and locations based on courses.
“Some might say that England was founded with the power, strength, and flexibility of the English Yew Longbow. Christine has been SCSU’s English Longbow,” St. Cloud State’s Alnwick Resident Coordinator Wade Sherman said. “An overwhelming force, sharply intelligent, witty, flexible, and always on target with her purpose of teaching British History and sharing her love for Northumberland.”
