St. Cloud State University’s Husky Productions has earned even more national recognition. The student-run organization was recently named a finalist for four Sports Video Group (SVG) awards during the 2023 awards process.
Husky Productions was named a finalist in the following categories:
- Outstanding Live Game Production (Men’s Ice Hockey: St. Cloud State vs. Minnesota Duluth)
- Outstanding Live Non-Game Production (Husky Faceoff — Men’s Ice Hockey vs. Minnesota Duluth)
- Outstanding Live Non-Game Production (Husky Faceoff with Mick Hatten)
- Outstanding Special Feature (Jeremiah Minkel)
This year’s competition shattered previous records of total number of entries submitted around the country. Since 2006, Husky Productions has earned 14 SVG awards and will find out if it will be adding to that list when the award winners are announced on May 31 during an awards presentation at the SVG College Summit in Atlanta.
“Being nominated as a SVG finalist is the ultimate validation,” said Brian Stanley ’93 Executive Producer of Husky Productions. “The student crew at Husky Productions worked tirelessly throughout the season learning, improving and mastering the equipment and the production process. Getting the SVG nod validates the season long commitment and dedication from the students. It’s a honor to be named a finalist and we are so proud of this season’s crew.”
The College Sports Media Award winners and finalists are selected by a panel of industry peers and look to celebrate the best in college sports video production. In 2023, awards are broken down within six different categories: Outstanding Live Game Production, Outstanding Live Non-Game Production, Outstanding Special Feature, Outstanding In-Venue Video, Outstanding Social Media Video, and Outstanding Program Series. Each category is then split into six divisions: Professional, Collegiate Athletics – Power, Collegiate Athletics – Championship, Collegiate Conferences & Governing Bodies, Collegiate Student – Power, and Collegiate Student – Championship.
SVG was formed in 2006 to support the professional community that relies on video, audio, and broadband technologies to produce and distribute sports content. Leagues, owners, teams, players, broadcasters, webcasters, and consumer technology providers have joined the SVG to learn from each other, turn vision into reality, implement new innovations, while sharing experiences that will lead to advancements in the sports production/distribution process and the overall consumer sports experience.
