St. Cloud State University and North Hennepin Community College held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 27 to celebrate their new partnership, which will now see a variety of SCSU’s graduate programs delivered at NHCC’s Brooklyn Park campus beginning Aug. 3.

SCSU President Dr. Gregory Tomso and NHCC President Dr. Rolando García joined together to address the group of leaders, employees and students from both institutions in NHCC’s Center for Business Technology.

“We want to build a strong, statewide education network that isn’t siloed off into two and four-year institutions,” Tomso said. “We are fortunate to have great partnerships and leaders that can provide opportunities for 280 of our students to earn degrees and build community at the NHCC campus.”

Twin Cities-based programs previously offered at SCSU’s Plymouth campus will now be offered at NHCC. SCSU graduate students will have access to a wide range of campus amenities including dining options, a fitness and recreation center, community and study spaces, library services, and a food cupboard, along with on-site staff who can connect them to tutoring and mental health support. These resources weren’t available at SCSU’s leased Plymouth location.

“This is a partnership that will benefit everyone; it demonstrates that when institutions collaborate, the community wins,” García said. “We’re coming together as Minnesota State institutions to meet the needs of our area.”
