St. Cloud Times — Minneapolis alt-country artist Jillian Rae loves all kinds of music, from classic rock such as Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin to 1990s country powerhouses Martina McBride and the Dixie Chicks.
When she was learning how to play the violin as a child, some of her friends would listen to only one genre of music. How boring, Rae thought.
“Why don’t we listen to all of it? It’s all so good,” she said.
Rae will play Thursday at the Loon’s Nest in downtown St. Cloud; she’ll be accompained by guitarist Eric Martin (besides being her music duo partner for the evening, he’s her husband).

A Minneapolis resident and St. Cloud State University graduate, Rae grew up in Eveleth. When she wanted to learn an instrument, her parents made a deal with her: If we ever have to bug you to practice, you’re done.
