For the fourth year in a row, St. Cloud State University has been honored for demonstrating an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion.
St. Cloud State is one of 91 colleges and universities to earn the 2015 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine.
“Being honored with the HEED award every year since it was founded speaks volumes to the work being done at St. Cloud State,” said Earl H. Potter III, St. Cloud State president. “Our efforts to build and sustain an open, diverse and inclusive community remain a top priority.”
The fourth-annual awards recognize exemplary diversity and inclusion initiatives and the ability to embrace diversity on university and college campuses. These efforts include gender, race, ethnicity, veterans, people with disabilities, members of the LGBT community and others.
“We take a holistic approach to reviewing each application in deciding who will be named a HEED Award recipient,” said Lenore Pearlstein, publisher of INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. “Our standards are high, and we look for institutions where diversity and inclusion are woven into the work being accomplished every day across a campus.”
More than 1,000 international students from more than 90 countries attend St. Cloud State. These students earn more than 850 academic and cultural sharing scholarships each year.
The University has demonstrated it’s commitment to diversity and inclusion by offering such services as:
- Lactation areas
- Prayer or reflections spaces
- Center for International Studies
- Multicultural Resource Center
- Veterans Resource Center
- Women’s Center
- LGBT Resource Center
St. Cloud State is one of three colleges and universities in Minnesota to earn the award.
The HEED Award is the only national honor recognizing U.S. colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion.
