Here’s how you can help SCSU support Project Homeless Connect

Project Homeless Connect is an annual event that supports hundreds of community members experiencing homelessness each year, and St. Cloud State University is looking for your help in making it a success.

“We care about people experiencing economic stress in our community,” said Sheila Moriarty, Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work. “Involvement from SCSU employees, students and the St. Cloud area are essential in making this event a success every year.”

Anthropology students get hands-on experience with on-campus archaeology field school

St. Cloud State University anthropology students have an incredible opportunity this semester to create their own excavation site and learn technological techniques that date back thousands of years. And they get to conduct the work right on the SCSU campus.

“Rather than excavating on a historical site, we’re making our own site,” said Anthropology Professor Mark Muñiz, who’s in his 19th year teaching at SCSU. “We are going through different traditional technologies that have been used by American Indian ancestors up to recent times; hopefully this gives (students) an appreciation of how difficult life was and how brilliant people were with the technology they had.”

Minnesota Secretary of State visits SCSU on National Voter Registration Day

Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon visited St. Cloud State University on Sept. 17 for National Voter Registration Day, speaking to assembled students, employees and community members about the importance of voting in the upcoming election. The event was arranged by Campus Involvement as part of SCSU’s Get out the Vote efforts.

Simon discussed how the state has passed recent laws to make voting even easier and more accessible for Minnesotans.

Dr. Kim to serve as keynote speaker at Minnesota State Teaching and Learning Conference

St. Cloud State University’s Dr. Ruthanne Soohee Crāpo Kim will serve as the keynote speaker at the upcoming 2024 Network for Educational Development (NED) Teaching and Learning Conference on Sept. 26-27.

NED was established to provide more opportunities to collaborate and share best teaching and learning practices across Minnesota State colleges and universities. The event is an opportunity for faculty to gain inspiration, connect with your peers, reflect with others and enhance teaching and learning strategies.

SCSU alumnus named MN Elementary Phy Ed Teacher of the Year

St. Cloud State University alumnus Mike Chamberlain has been selected as the Minnesota Society of Health and Physical Educators’ (MNSHAPE) Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year Award winner.

Chamberlain graduated from SCSU in 2010 with a BS in Physical Education. He said he is a proud alumnus of St. Cloud State, making and maintaining many connections at the University.

SCSU’S Fighting Saints Battalion to host 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb

St. Cloud State University’s ROTC Fighting Saints Battalion will host a 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 4:30 p.m. on the Husky Stadium steps on SCSU’s campus.

The Fighting Saints Battalion is honoring and remembering the sacrifices made on the tragic day in our nation’s history. Participants can choose to climb the full 2,071 stairs – representing the number of steps climbed by first responders – or can complete any portion of the climb.

SCSU updates nearly 60 classrooms over the summer to enhance learning experience

As Huskies returned to St. Cloud State University this fall, they found new upgrades to dozens of classrooms across campus. The upgrades demonstrate SCSU’s commitment to investing in and reinvigorating its physical spaces and instructional technology to provide the best learning experiences for students. 

SCSU’s Information Technology Services (ITS) and Facilities Management upgraded 58 classrooms over the summer, making significant improvements across campus for the 2024-25 academic year.

SCSU professor earns national award for outstanding contributions to traffic safety

St. Cloud State University professor Mark Lee has received national recognition for winning the Richard Kaywood Memorial Award through the American Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association (ADTSEA).

“Mark actively tries to get people involved in making traffic safety education better, and he is always looking for ways to improve education on a local, statewide or national level,” said Melissa Hanzsek-Brill, Dean of the College of Education and Learning Design. “His leadership is outstanding, and he is very deserving of this honor.”
