St. Cloud Live — Former St. Cloud State Hall of Fame and All-American wrestler Shamus O’Grady has been officially announced as a member of this year’s Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Hall of Fame Class.

O’Grady wrestled for St. Cloud State from 2009-2013. He will officially be inducted on Tuesday, July 9, during the NSIC’s annual Summer Kickoff at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Bloomington.

The Rink Live — Only one quarter of the athletes that declared for the PWHL Draft in 2024 wound up being selected in the event held on June 10 in St. Paul.

When Klára Hymlárová heard her name called in the third round, 15th overall, by PWHL Minnesota, she was ecstatic about the opportunity to play professional hockey in a state that she had spent the past five years in. The native of Opava, Czechia, competed for St. Cloud State University from the fall of 2019 all the way up through the spring of 2024, and now she won’t have to go far to play for her new team in St. Paul.

Northumberland Gazette — North America was still a part of the British Empire when the earliest records of the traditional annual Alnwick Shrove ‘mob football’ begin in 1762.
The game, which moved from the streets of the town to the pastures in front of Alnwick castle in 1820, almost certainly pre-dates even that, however.

It proved a historic moment then, in February this year, when a visiting student from the States became the first woman ever to score a hale in the contest between the parishes of St. Michael’s and St. Paul’s.

St. Cloud Live — Since 2022, Michael Dando and his research partners have held creativity workshops in New York City, San Diego and St. Cloud. They work with community groups such as Boys & Girls Club and United Way to connect and work with local middle and high school students.

“We didn’t want to be outside people coming in and deciding who we should work with,” he said. “That’s why working with local youth groups is so important. We want to understand what is going on in the community and what young people are seeing and thinking.”
