‘It was quite an adventure’: Alumnus covers Hurricane Ian from Florida
Hurricane Ian hit Florida toward the end of September, leaving destruction and tragedy in its wake. Hundreds of lives were lost between Cuba and the southeastern United States, and damages upward of $50 billion were sustained. Throughout it all, alumnus Gordon Severson ’10 was on the ground to bear witness.
Alumna’s $1 million gift results in SCSU’s first named department
The announcement and dedication of The Judy C. Pearson Department of Communication Studies took place Sept. 22 in the lobby of Riverview on the University campus. Dr. Judy Pearson has endowed the University’s communication studies department with a $1 million gift, resulting in the first named department on campus.

St. Cloud State University alumnus Tony Abfalter has been in the southern-most point of the globe since February while handling most of the communications systems at McMurdo Station in Antarctica.

Ben Pluimer ’04, Mass Communications graduate, was part of the creative team at Nickelodeon that won a 2021 Emmy for the Outstanding Playoff Coverage category for the network’s alternative coverage of the NFL Wild Card game between the Chicago Bears and New Orleans Saints in January 2021.
