Katrina Schiller continues family’s long SCSU tradition

Katrina Schiller was the first of her family of five to not initially attend St. Cloud State University. But while attending the University of Minnesota her first few years of college, she knew something was missing.

“I really wanted that sense of community I’d feel at SCSU,” Schiller said. “I knew they have a great (psychology) program, and it’s a smaller community for greater options to form connections … I felt like it would be a better fit for me.”

SCSU hosts the MN Summit on Learning and Technology Aug. 3

The Minnesota Learning Commons (MnLC) will host the 2023 MnLC Summit on Learning and Technology: The Whole Learner, on Thursday, August 3 at St. Cloud State University. 

The MnLC Summit on Learning and Technology is Minnesota’s annual meeting for educators in K-12 and higher education who are interested in online technologies and teaching practices to gather, learn and share.

From an SCSU engineering challenge, graduate uses tech in granite manufacturing

Innovation and teamwork are important to any engineer, and Luke Miller, a recent graduate with degrees in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, successfully used these qualities.

At the age of 22, Miller spearheaded a project at Coldspring, a renowned granite manufacturing company. This project was born out of an engineering challenge, known as Huskies Invent, from St. Cloud State University’s College of Science and Engineering (COSE). In this event, Miller’s team created a solution to a persistent challenge concerning the placement of spacers on granite paving blocks. After Miller implemented the solution at Coldspring, it streamlined production, making a local industry more globally competitive.

SCSU to welcome area students for Scrubs Camp 2023

St. Cloud State University and St. Cloud Technical & Community College (SCTCC) will once again welcome local students to campus in July to learn about a career in healthcare and to get hands-on insight into healthcare professions.

SCSU’s College of Health and Wellness Professions is partnering with SCTCC to host “Scrubs Camp 2023: Healthcare in Our Own Back Yard” on July 25-27 at SCSU.

Director of SCSU Esports receives NACE Hero Award

St. Cloud State University’s Director of Esports has received a national award for his contributions at SCSU and the evolving world of esports.

Chase Neukam, who was named the first Director of Esports at SCSU in February, was honored with the Hero Award from The National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) at the 2023 NACE National Convention held July 11-13 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

SCSU students to participate in National Eclipse Ballooning Project

Over the next year, six St. Cloud State University College of Science and Engineering (COSE) students along with faculty lead, Assistant Professor Rachel Humphrey, are preparing to take part in the NASA Nationwide Eclipse Ballooning Project (NEBP).

The NEBP immerses teams of STEM students from a wide range of higher education institutions in an innovative NASA-mission-like project in data acquisition and analysis through scientific ballooning during the Oct. 14, 2023 annular and April 8, 2024 total solar eclipses.

Former KVSC Station Manager Jo McMullen-Boyer receives lifetime achievement award

A former longtime Station Manager of KVSC, a student-run educational and community-based public radio station licensed to St. Cloud State University, recently received a lifetime achievement award for all she has done for the industry over the years.

Jo McMullen-Boyer, who retired as KVSC Station Manager in April after 31 years in that role, was awarded the lifetime achievement award at the annual Ampers meeting in June.
