COSE students have research article published in international journal

In early March, two St. Cloud State students from the College of Science and Engineering (COSE) had their research article published in an international, scientific, peer-reviewed journal.

Software Engineering student Faizi Fifita and Data Science and Mathematics student Jordan Smith had their research article titled “Machine Learning-Based Identifications of COVID-19 Fake News Using Biomedical Information Extraction”, published in Big Data and Cognitive Computing. This research article belongs to the journal’s collection: Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence for Health Applications on Social Networks.

SCSU students take center stage during Journey Across the World 2023

St. Cloud State University students took center stage at the Paramount Center for the Arts in St. Cloud on March 21 for a presentation of Journey Across the World 2023.

The event, presented by SCSU and the City of St. Cloud, provided an exciting and fun show while showcasing the diverse cultures of St. Cloud through song, dance and other lively performances. The showcase annually features performances by SCSU students.

KVSC broadcasters see strong support from SCSU fans

St. Cloud State University hockey fans are a passionate pack.

And thanks to their generous efforts, SCSU student broadcasters had another chance to head on the road to cover the Huskies at the NCAA Men’s Hockey Tournament, where SCSU opened up play against Minnesota State-Mankato on March 23 and later faced the University of Minnesota in the Regional Final on March 25 in Fargo, North Dakota.

Three St. Cloud State University students and one faculty member had the unique opportunity of attending the 15th annual Clinton Global Initiative University (GCIU) meetings on March 3-4 at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.

The meeting annually brings together student leaders and global experts in business, public service and social impact to develop innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges.

SCSU participates in Minnesota Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition

St. Cloud State University’s Collegiate Cyber Defense Team competed in the 2023 Minnesota State Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC) state qualifier on Feb. 4 in Alexandria, placing fifth out of 11 teams.

The St. Cloud State Speech & Debate team took home top honors at the 40th Minnesota State Speech & Debate Championship Tournament on Feb. 17-18 held at Minnesota State University-Mankato, with senior El Julius earning the All-State Award based on overall GPA, competitive speech excellence and community service.

SCSU’s Computer Science Club hosts Global Game Jam site

St. Cloud State’s Computer Science Club hosted a Global Game Jam site in ISELF on campus in early February to begin brainstorming on game designs. Fourteen participants — “jammers” — gathered with over 39,000 fellow jammers spread across 108 countries.

SCSU baseball player has an adventurous hobby: sled dog racing

St. Cloud State sophomore baseball player Ero Wallin recently competed in the 300-mile Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon, finishing in eighth place.

Wallin has a family history of training and racing sled dogs. Some of his SCSU teammates made the trip to support him on Jan. 29 in Duluth.

Huskies witness visit by Vice President Harris to St. Cloud

St. Cloud State students were treated to an experience of a lifetime Feb. 9 when United States Vice President Kamala Harris paid a visit to St. Cloud’s New Flyer manufacturing plant. Students Edison Jensen, Elise Kloeppner, James Reichow and students from UTVS were part of the visit, either providing coverage or volunteering at the event.
