KNSI — Students began class Aug. 26 at St. Cloud State University.
Interim President Larry Dietz took to social media to welcome those new to the school. “I want to wish you a great day. Whether you’re a new freshman experiencing your first day on the campus or you’re a faculty staff member who has been here for decades, I wish you a great first day, a great semester and a great academic year.”
St. Cloud Times — As a new academic year looms ahead, St. Cloud State University and the City of St. Cloud provided a united front at Tuesday morning’s town hall, saying the two entities will work together to create a better community.
“You come into a situation, and you come in with a fresh set of eyes,” Mayor Dave Kleis said. “You come in and there’s still a strong sense of collaboration. I think that’s what’s going to help the university, and it’s (also) going to help the city by working together.”
St. Cloud Live — The St. Cloud State volleyball team has been selected to finish third in the NSIC volleyball preseason coaches poll and fifth-year outside hitter Kenzie Foley was named preseason player of the year in an announcement from the league on Thursday, Aug. 8.
WJON — A local university’s new Esports Arena is having a big impact on its entire campus as well as gamers.
St. Cloud State University’s (SCSU) state-of-the-art Esports Arena opened in the spring of 2023 and was designed as a space for everyone to connect.
WJON — The Minnesota Highway Safety and Research Center in St. Cloud has a new name. Starting July t, the advanced driving skills facility has been rebranded Precision Driving Center of Minnesota.
The center is part of St. Cloud State University’s continuing studies program.
St. Cloud Live — Former St. Cloud State pitcher Ethan Lanthier was drafted by the New York Mets in the 12th round of the Major League Baseball draft on Tuesday, July 16.
Lanthier, a Northfield native, pitched for the Huskies in 2022 and 2023. He was the 353rd overall pick in the draft.
WJON — St. Cloud State University (SCSU) and St. Cloud Technical and Community College (SCTCC) are looking for ways to expand their partnership to benefit area students.
The two schools recently held a joint summit to get faculty, staff, and administrators in better contact with each other and lay the groundwork for new ideas and programs.
MPR — Carol Gibson-Miller recently took questions about early childhood special education and development. Gibson-Miller is the managing director at Lindgren Early Learning Center at St. Cloud State University and spent 20 years in early childhood special education including educating parents on the state’s Help Me Grow system for child development.
St. Cloud Live — St. Cloud LIVE sports editor Andy Rennecke sat down with SCSU’s AD Holly Schreiner in a wide-ranging interview. Despite recent cuts, she is optimistic about the University’s future.
“I’m an alum. I’m proud of my degree from here. I love this place. I’m sick of hearing all the negative comments about the city and the university … it’s an exciting time and I think St. Cloud State will come out on top.”
KNSI — St. Cloud State University is planning a major overhaul of its campus over the next 15 years.
According to the school’s administration, the campus has more square feet of buildings per student than any other Minnesota State institution, so it is looking at removing several of the older vacant, closed or underused buildings and bulldozing the structures will allow for more green space and create a park-like environment in the heart of campus. The plan will eliminate the cost of maintaining the unused space.
