St. Cloud State University has been designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAEIAE), 2009-2014, by the National Security Agency (NSA). The university will be recognized on Wednesday, June 3, in Seattle, Wash., at the Colloquium for Information Systems Security Education.
The title makes St. Cloud State one of only 94 institutions of CAEIAE status in the nation, while recognizing the university’s commitment to excellence in information assurance.
Last year, St. Cloud State was certified by the Committee on National Security Systems and the NSA as offering courseware that meets the national training standards of professionals and risk analysts. The computer security efforts at St. Cloud State are coordinated by the Center for Information Assurance Studies (CIAS), an interdisciplinary effort between the Information Systems Department located in the G.R. Herberger College of Business and the Computer Networking and Applications Department in the College of Science and Engineering.
Mark Schmidt, founder and interim director of CIAS at St. Cloud State, stresses that CIAS provides a supportive learning environment in which students are challenged to develop in-depth knowledge in various domains of information assurance. The mission of CIAS is to facilitate cyber security research, education and practice.
CAEIAE, which is sponsored by NSA and the Department of Homeland Security, aims to reduce vulnerability in the national information infrastructure by promoting higher education and research in information assurance, while increasing the number of experts in the field.
