My name is Sara Salas Ramirez and I am originally from Tlaquiltenango Morelos, Mexico, and I have lived in Austin, Minnesota since 2000. I am the oldest daughter of three children. I am a first generation student attending college and for my family this is very important.
Ever since I was a little girl my parents told me “no tenemos mucho, pero lo que si te queremos dar es tu education (we do not have a lot, but the one thing we would like to give you is your education).” I realized that attending college was not going to be easy, because I knew that going to college was expensive. I thought to myself, scholarships are an option that can help me pay for my school.
Receiving the Xcel Energy Foundation Endowed Scholarship my first year at St. Cloud State helped me in a variety of ways. This scholarship not only helped pay for a portion of my tuition, but it also allowed my parents to have money to give me in order for me to pay for my school books and other supplies.
“St. Cloud State University continues to give me opportunities to further my education and continuously grow as a person.”
This scholarship also allowed me to spend less time working and worrying about how I was going to pay for school. It gave me more time to concentrate on my studies. St. Cloud State has given me great growth opportunities and it has given me my Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and Political Science.
Currently a student for the Master’s in Social Responsibility, St. Cloud State University continues to give me opportunities to further my education and continuously grow as a person.
