College counselors work to accommodate growing demand

St. Cloud Times — At St. Cloud State, more than 900 students came in for counseling in the 2013-14 school year, a 50 percent increase from 10 years earlier. The number of total sessions doubled over the same time frame.

St. Ben’s and St. John’s also saw a dramatic increase over the past decade. From fiscal years 2001 to 2005, the schools held an average of 1,739 counseling sessions per year. That number increased in the 2006-10 period, and again in the 2011-14 period. In 2014, the schools held 2,922 counseling appointments.
