St. Cloud Times — Morcelli Kombo was excited and happy after he won his first 5K race in 2013.
He was just as happy to win Friday’s Earth Day 5K, but a lot more reserved as he stood beyond the finish line at Husky Stadium and waited for the other runners to cross.
Kombo knows he’s a perennial contender to win the race each year.
“I thought I ran a very good race,” said Kombo, 20, of St. Cloud. “I ran hard the whole run and I didn’t slow down or anything.”
Kombo finished in 18:08, 41 seconds ahead of second-place Larissa Peyton, 25, of St. Cloud.
He crossed the finish line in 18:43 when he won the event two years ago, but Kombo took a step back in 2014, finishing 11 seconds slower.
