Scholarship winner is new University Chronicle editor

St. Cloud Times — Good morning, St. Cloud area.

This year’s winner of the Gannett Foundation-Times Media Don Casey Scholarship is Alec Kasper-Olson.

The Casey scholarship, named after a distinguished former executive editor, is awarded annually to a St. Cloud State mass communications student.

Kasper-Olson is a junior at St. Cloud State from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. Recently, he was selected as the editor-in-chief of the University Chronicle, the school newspaper. Previously, he was the assistant news editor and a staff writer for the newspaper.

He is working toward a degree in mass communications with a print emphasis and a minor in German. In addition to a full load of classes, he has a 20-hour-a-week off-campus job and is a teaching assistant for a professor in an honors course in genocide studies.
