“YAATRA: A Journey Through the Pearl of Asia” will be held 5-7 p.m. Oct. 3 in Stewart Hall’s Ritsche Auditorium.

“Sri Lanka is a diverse and multicultural country and is home to many religions, ethnic groups and languages,” Dakshina Jayakody, president of the Ayubowan Sri Lanka Organization. “Sri Lanka has a beautiful history that began almost 30,000 years ago.”
The evening also includes a short presentation and a Sri Lankan dinner as the students highlight areas of the country that are significant to St. Cloud-area Sri Lankans, he said.
The student organization seeks to teach the St. Cloud community about the Sri Lankan culture and serve as a bridge between the various cultures on campus.
This school year the organization will also be raising funds for Educate Lanka, an organization that connects students in low-income areas with sponsors who help with their education costs and day-to-day needs.
Admission to the event is $5 for students and $7 for non-students.
Cultural festivals are one way the university is providing a transformative educational experience for students to help prepare them to be global citizens at home, at work and in their communities. More than 1,000 students from 90-plus nations attend St. Cloud State, and cultural festivals give them an opportunity to share elements of their culture with the campus community.
