Cultural immersion meets clinical experience

Accepting the opportunity to study abroad has allowed me to grow as a person in so many ways. Each day I observed and participated as a student nurse at a community health clinic in Chile. By being completely immersed into nursing in a culture very different than my own, I learned the value of patience, understanding and communication. Each of these values and many more will allow me to be a better nurse for all patients in my future.

When I was not practicing nursing, my host family taught me about the history of the country and we explored all of the coastal lands with beautiful scenery. No matter the instance, big or small, my study abroad experience has taught me to be more independent and brave, and I have a new found respect for other cultures. I am forever changed for the better, and I cannot wait to visit again.
