St. Cloud Times — Les Green indicated last fall that he was interested in succeeding Dennis Whipple as chair of the St. Cloud school board, and a failed referendum didn’t change his mind.
On Monday night, Green was unanimously elected to the position as the board had its annual reorganization meeting at Apollo High School.
“I’ve always thought that, if you’re the smartest person in your group, you’re in the wrong group,” said Green, who has undergraduate and graduate degrees from St. Cloud State University. “I can assure you, I’m with the right people here. There are a lot of intelligent minds to work with.”
In 2006, Green earned a doctorate in educational administration and leadership from the University of Minnesota. His career began in 1972 when he became SCSU’s first African-American instructor in the department of education.
