The men’s Huskies Hockey first-year defenseman recorded an assist in the 8-3 defeat of Sweden Jan. 5 in the third-place game at Hartwall Arena.

The World Junior Championship annually features the world’s best under-20 male hockey players. Team USA finished with five wins and two losses, including a 4-2 win over Canada.

A Moorhead native, Borgen was paired with Miami University defender Louie Belpedio throughout the 10-team tournament.

Borgen recorded three assists in seven games, including one in the bronze-medal game and one on the game-winner against Canada. Borgen posted a plus-6 rating and had six shots on goal for Team USA.

No. 4 St. Cloud State plays Colorado College Jan. 8-9 at Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Borgen likely will be rested for the weekend.

A 2015 graduate of Moorhead High School, Borgen played for Coach Jon Ammerman ’11, a former men’s Huskies Hockey skater.

Borgen is a fourth round draft pick of the National Hockey League’s Buffalo Sabres.
