The initiative raises awareness of the gender gap in university leadership at a time when 60 percent of presidents will retire in the next decade. The goal is to achieve gender parity with 50 percent of the chief executives at higher education institutions being women by 2030.
The presidents are committed to promote the advancement of women in higher education leadership by:
• Nominating qualified women to the highest positions of leadership in higher education when possible
• Providing opportunities for emerging women leaders to gain access to the skills and experiences necessary to advance
• Educating others about the benefits of a gender-diversified leadership
• Empowering leadership teams within their universities to sponsor women leaders
“This initiative is another example of St. Cloud State’s commitment to inclusivity and equality of all regardless of gender, race, religion, ability or sexual orientation,” Potter said.
The American Council on Education is also invested in providing leadership programs to address the needs of diverse women and men, who are underrepresented in higher education leadership.
The organization has a long-standing commitment to advancing women leaders.
