Lifelong learner fought in Iwo Jima, valued every soul

Star Tribune — Remembering Richard D. Howell, Sr., Iwo Jima veteran of the segregated U.S. Army, track athlete, church deacon, husband, parent, banker and school teacher.

Howell, 89, was a 1969 graduate of St. Cloud State with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. He was buried Monday at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
