Administrators and staff came together for a pilot calling campaign Thursday to engage class of 2019 students that have yet to register for classes for fall 2016.
The group called unregistered students to congratulate them on completing their first year of college and to encourage registration, identify barriers to registration and to work together to show the university’s commitment to student success and retention. The calling list included first-year students who were registered for spring 2016, but haven’t registered for fall and have GPAs of at least 2.0.
Director of Financial Aid Mike Uran, Director of Advising and Student Transitions Mike Sharp and Interim Assistant Provost of University College Adam Klepetar were on hand to assist with removing holds and handling complex advising questions.
“The retention call strategy has a very simple message: ‘It is normal to wait to register for classes, and we really value you as a student and want to help you stay a part of our community,'” Klepetar said. “The event was productive, in that we were able to have conversations with more than 40 students in about an hour and a half. It also turned out to be a lot of fun for all of us that showed up!”
The calls identified several students that were able to have follow-up conversations with Financial Aid about removing holds so they could register.
