The president of St. Cloud State University died Monday night in a one-vehicle rollover crash, said Steven Rosenstone, chancellor of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities.
In a notice posted on the school’s website Tuesday morning, Rosenstone confirmed the death of Earl H. Potter III, who had been St. Cloud State University’s president since 2007.
“Earl’s passing is a huge loss to SCSU, to the state of Minnesota, and to higher education,” Rosenstone wrote. “His leadership, on so many fronts, will be missed. Earl was a colleague and a friend — – a thoughtful, insightful leader — – who cared deeply about the university, its students, and the St. Cloud Community.”
Provost Ashish Vaidya has been appointed as acting president. “As a campus community, we’re all grieving this great loss,” Vaidya said at a Tuesday press conference, where campus and community leaders gathered to pay tribute to Potter.
