The university handed out stickers showing Jacob’s No. 11 to attendees at Celebrate events throughout the weekend. Attendees at activities, including the Celebrate football game Sept. 17 versus Minnesota State-Mankato, were invited to sign a commitment to live by the 11 traits of Jacob’s Hope.

Jacob Wetterling was abducted near his home in St. Joseph in October 1989. After almost 27 years, authorities received a confession to close the case earlier this week. The Wetterling Family and the Jacob Wetterling Resource Center are encouraging people who want to honor Jacob to wear the number 11, Jacob’s number in multiple sports.

St. Cloud State is joined several other Minnesota teams in honoring the St. Joseph boy.

“Celebrate is a time for Huskies fans, friends, students, employees and alumni to come together as a community. It’s also a good time to come together for healing and remembrance following the recent revelations in the Wetterling case,” said St. Cloud State Interim President Ashish Vaidya. “Jacob’s story has touched all Minnesotans, and we want to invite our Huskies community to come together in honoring his memory.”

Fall Celebrate is a weekend for St. Cloud State students, families, alumni, faculty, staff and friends to celebrate their connections and share their Huskies pride. The weekend encompasses family weekend, an alumni art exhibit, a commemoration of Holes Hall and volleyball and football games among other celebratory events.
