Fans who viewed the Major League Baseball All-Star Game on FOX Sports experienced a broadcast directed by Matt Gangl ’95.
Gangl, 44, is a veteran director of live sports television, with stints at FOX Sports Wisconsin and FOX Sports North.
The July 11 iteration of the Midsummer Classic earned an estimated 8.7 million viewers for FOX, with Gangl calling shots from an arsenal of cameras, including 33 high-definition game cameras, eight super slow-motion cameras and an aerial camera.
The broadcast team gave Gangl audio from more than 100 microphones, including 14 wireless mics buried in the infield of Marlins Park in Miami. The two most important mics were manned by play-by-play announcer Joe Buck and retired pitcher John Smoltz, an eight-time All-Star.

The American League defeated the National League 2-1 on a 10th-inning homer by Robinson Cano of the Mariners.
