Kayla Malone, weed control supervisor for Chaffee County, goes to work every morning at 6:30 a.m. to battle the silent, green enemies of farmers, ranchers and everyday gardeners.
Malone was hired by the county in April 2016 as the assistant supervisor for weed management. After Larry Walker’s retirement in December, Malone took over as supervisor.
She attended St. Cloud State in Minnesota, where she grew up, and earned her bachelor’s degree in general biology in 2010 and a master’s degree in ecology and natural resources in 2014. She spent her last three years in college studying plants, she said.
