Eden Prairie News — Eden Prairie Fire Department Assistant Chief Becki White ’97 has joined an elite group in the firefighting profession.
She’s earned the designation of Executive Fire Officer from the U.S. Fire Administration’s National Fire Academy. Less than 1 percent of all fire service professionals obtain this designation, and she’s the first Eden Prairie firefighter to get it.
White was recognized by Eden Prairie Fire Chief George Esbensen during the Aug. 8 Eden Prairie City Council meeting. Esbensen said the designation is master’s degree-level work for a firefighter.

Prior to becoming assistant chief, she worked for the Minnesota State Fire Marshal Division as a fire and life safety educator. She attended St. Cloud State University where she studied elementary education and psychology. After college, she became a teacher, working in St. Louis Park, Bloomington and Shakopee, where she taught for 10 years prior to switching careers to work in fire service.
