A Composition Concert at 8 p.m. Sept. 20 in the Performing Arts Center Recital Hall will include an original work composed by St. Cloud State University students. Admission is free.
Six St. Cloud State University students’ original works will be performed during the concert by St. Cloud State music students Edgar Languren, White, Georgia; Samantha Gunderson, Mora; Kyle Yotter, Pierz; Joseph Bigelow, Sauk Rapids; Jack Wald, White Bear Lake, and Carlos Camejo, Champlin.
The student composers are students in the composition and digital arts program. Their works include pieces for strings, piano, percussion, brass and woodwinds.
Performances of student compositions is an integral part of the curriculum in the Department of Music’s composition and digital arts concentration.
Each semester musicians and directors from the St. Cloud State University Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble and the Contemporary Music Ensemble workshop the new music and help the composers arrive at a final version ready for performance.
The experience helps the musicians in the ensembles learn to collaborate with composers and learn to navigate the compositional process.
