Community helps St. Cloud family celebrate Christmas

ST. CLOUD TIMES — When an area organization had more families in need than could serve, one St. Cloud family found help through a volunteer and an online request. 

Amanda Garcia, 29, was scrolling through Facebook when she saw that Bootstrap Comrades, a nonprofit supporting veterans and their families, was providing help to families in need for Christmas.

Garcia’s husband is a veteran, and it has been a tough year for the St. Cloud family, she said. So she reached out to Bootstrap Comrades volunteer Julie Peterson to ask for help. 

Bootstrap Comrades had already sponsored around 25 families and did not have money left to buy toys for the Garcias’ three children. But Peterson couldn’t say no, she said.
