Deans from the College of Science and Engineering, School of Health and Human Services and School of Public Affairs spoke about partnerships within their areas are making a difference for employers and the community.
Steve Henningsgard ’17 recounted working on a project for GeoComm as a student worker. That project went on to become the core concepts of GeoComm’s three-dimensional mapping solution Smart City Map and Smart Venue Map. The technology was used to help protect the Super Bowl, and Henningsgard is now a product manager at GeoComm for the software.
Minnesota State Chancellor Devinder Malhotra explained that the good work being done at St. Cloud State is one example of how colleges and universities throughout the Minnesota State system are providing for workforce needs throughout Minnesota.
Tom Grones, GeoComm President and CEO, explained how the company has turned to St. Cloud State University and its students for talent since it’s very beginning.
The event was part of a day-long conversation on how St. Cloud State and St. Cloud Technical & Community College are preparing students for workforce needs in the region. The conversation included a discussion at St. Cloud Technical & Community College led by SCTCC President Annesa Cheek and a discussion on working together more efficiently hosted by the St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce.
