ST. CLOUD TIMES — Martin Luther King Jr. was talking about gun control and police brutality in the last months of his life, Wil Haygood told a crowd of more than 800 in St. Cloud Monday.
Those issues are still salient today.
Haygood headlined the sixth annual Martin Luther King Jr. breakfast on Monday.
The author and journalist is known for reporting the real-life story that inspired Lee Daniels’ “The Butler” film about an African American man who staffed the White House through eight presidents.
Haygood talked about current politics, including the border wall, former President Barack Obama’s rise and the story behind his own reporting on White House butler Eugene Allen. He told those gathered of the time Allen met King.
