ST. CLOUD TIMES — Inside the Performing Arts Center at St. Cloud State University, a “Curious Incident” is unfolding.
In “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time,” a play based on the novel by Mark Haddon, 15-year-old Christopher Boone is wrongfully framed for the death of a neighbor’s dog.
During his quest to uncover the perpetrator of the crime next door, Christopher uncovers secrets that hit even closer to home.
Complicating matters are Christopher’s behavioral difficulties, which include sensitivities to lights, sound and physical contact.
Christopher is on the autism spectrum. It’s a condition that shapes the character’s world and the world of the play — though it defines neither.
“It’s more of a universal story than a story of a kid on the spectrum,” said Jeffrey Bleam, director of the joint production between St. Cloud State University’s theater department and GREAT Theatre. “We’re all able to find ways that we relate to Christopher.”
