Two earn MASE awards for leadership in special education

Amy Green Ernst ’06 ’11 and Gaynard Brown ’77 ’79 ’08 are being recognized for their leadership in the field of special education this year by the Minnesota Administrators for Special Education (MASE).

Ernst is being recognized for her leadership early in her career, while Brown is being recognized for inspiring others to lead.

Both are graduates of St. Cloud State’s Director of Special Education licensure program.

Ernst will earn the 2019 MASE New Special Education Leader Award presented March 8 at the MASE Spring Conference.

The award recognizes new leaders who exhibit the leadership excellence required to effective in challenging times. She is the director of special education for Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose Schools.

Brown will be honored with the 2019 MASE Legacy Award at the MASE Fall Leadership Conference. The award recognizes members for their commitment to encouraging, developing and mentoring leaders. He is the recently retired director of the Paul Bunyan Education Cooperative.

Recipients of the Legacy Award have contributed to the professional growth and development of others and have a service history that has made an impact at the local, regional and state level.
