ST. CLOUD TIMES — As construction goes forward on a new plaza at St. Cloud State University, there are high hopes the public space will bear new traditions among the Husky community.
Construction crews broke ground on Husky Plaza last month, an area just north of Centennial Hall that will feature a bronze sculpture of the school’s mascot surrounded by hundreds of inscribed bricks from campus members. The project, which costs around $370,000 in total, is expected to be completed mid-August.
“We think this plaza will be a place where new traditions will be born,” said Matt Andrew, who leads the SCSU Foundation.
For example, he envisions students coming up to the husky statue to rub its nose for good luck. Or fans might follow the marching band from the plaza to the Husky Stadium before football games.
It’s all part of Andrew’s high hopes new plaza. He wants it to be a place where students meet up with friends, fans gather before games and alumni come back to visit — he said it could even host weddings of Husky couples.
