The Minnesota Administrators for Special Education (MASE) recently announced that Nicole Woodward ’17 was named the recipient of the 2020 New Special Education Leader Award.
Woodward, who earned a degree in Educational Administration and Leadership from St. Cloud State University in 2017, received the award for her commitment to students with disabilities while demonstrating passion and commitment to MASE’s overall mission.
Woodward is currently the Director of Special Education within the St. Croix River Education District in Rush City.

The annual award is given annually to a new leader who exhibits the leadership excellence required to be effective in challenging times. These skills include: a willingness to risk, an ability to collaborate, skills in listening and communicating, and a broad understanding of the educational system. Further, this award is given to a new leader who has displayed the MASE mission of shaping policies and practices which impact the quality of education for students with disabilities.
MASE is a professional association organized to promote programs and services to improve the education of children with disabilities, to foster high quality programs of professional development and to study problems relating to serving children with disabilities and improving the leadership of administrators for special education.
MASE members are administrators for special education in public or private schools, cooperative regional, state and other education administrative units, college and university professors of special education teacher or administrator preparation programs, and administrators, coordinators or consultants for the Minnesota Department of Education.
