Now head out of the Miller Center and outside pass between the Administrative Services and Performing Arts Center buildings to locate the World Commons Garden located between Administrative Services and Centennial Hall. The garden was designed in 1997 by Kinji Akagawa.
The World Common Gardens was designed as a space on campus for conversation and reflection. The Japanese-style garden was designed by environmental artist Kinji Akagawa, while in residence as a visiting artist at St. Cloud State. Twelve sculpture students also collaborated in the garden’s design. Typical of Akagawa’s work, the garden uses only natural materials. Features include a wooden bridge, fish pond, granite sculptures and benches, along with various trees, shrubs, and flowers.
