Former St. Cloud State University Student Government President Surkhel Yousafzai ’21 has earned the prestigious Falcon and Fellow Awards in Dubai while serving as a Dubai Business Associate this year.
The Dubai Business Associates program runs under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai. The Dubai Business Associate program offers recent graduates an opportunity to study and do business in Dubai, a dynamic and multicultural hub for global commerce, to develop as future global leaders.
The program combines business hard skills, soft skills, consulting skill and practical work experience over nine months in Dubai, United Arab Emirates by combining academic learning modules and hands-on placements.
Throughout the program, associates attend master classes with industry leaders and CEOS, gain skills development training and attend cultural events. They are assigned career and life coaches and learn about Dubai as a place of business. Yousafzai was selected for completing his internship placement with the Executive Council of the Government of Dubai.
During his time in the program, Yousafzai had the opportunity to work for the governance and excellence teams at The Executive Council of Dubai and served as an external strategic and innovation consultant to world’s largest humanitarian hub, the International Humanitarian City of Dubai.
As a proud St. Cloud State alumnus, Yousafzai stayed involved with the University while serving in the program to recruit future students to attend St. Cloud State and support the newly-launched Center for International Disability Advocacy and Diplomacy
He was also actively engaged in helping support Minnesota’s bid to host Expo 2027 from the grounds of Expo 2020 held in Dubai.
Yousafzai graduated in May with a double major in Political Science and International Relations and a certificate in Global Feminist Leadership.
