St. Cloud State University will host Tech Savvy on Feb. 24, an event geared towards getting girls in grades 5-8 interested and excited about the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) career field.
The one-day conference is organized by the American Association of University Women (AAUW). The sixth annual event begins at 8 a.m. on Feb. 24 in ISELF, with attendees participating in four different workshops throughout the day. SCSU’s College of Science and Engineering partners with AAUW to make the event possible.
“Careers in STEM fields require the advanced education SCSU provides,” said Jan Bensen, the event’s organizer from AAUW. “Students need to be introduced to these disciplines in middle school, and be excited to see themselves in these fields, so they can make the class choices in junior high and high school that prepare them for STEM coursework in college.”
Cost is $10, which includes materials, lunch, swag and raffle tickets for prizes. This year girls can also sign up as a cohort with friends, moving from workshop to workshop as a group.
Registration is now open, while the last day to register is Feb. 5.
