St. Cloud State Economics Professor King Banaian has been appointed by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz to the state’s Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board.

The Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board was first established by the state legislature in 1974. The Board aims to promote public confidence in state government decision-making through development, administration and enforcement of disclosure and public financing programs.

“I am honored to be chosen by Governor Walz for this position,” Banaian said. “I hope to help the Board with its key role in maintaining the public’s trust in campaign finance and fair elections.”

Banaian, who is also the director of the Center for Policy Research and Community Engagement, has taught at SCSU for 41 years. He served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 2011-13.

Banian’s appointment to the Board will run until Jan. 3, 2028.
