Sarah Green, an associate professor of English and creative writing at St. Cloud State University, has won a Pushcart Prize for her poem “Tinder” and will be included in the 50th edition of the Pushcart anthology.
The Pushcart Prize: Best of the Small Presses series has been published since 1976 and is a widely-read and respected literary project in the United States. Over 10,000 pieces are nominated annually, including alumna Brianna Condon last year. Only about 70 winners are included in the published anthology.
Green was first included in the 2008 edition for her poem “Chances are, Lafayette, Indiana.” Her recent work “Tinder” was first published in Pleiades Magazine and later nominated for the Pushcart Prize.
“Most writers go their whole lives without securing this achievement,” Green said. “When I was honored the first time, the editor told me I was the youngest recipient thus far. I didn’t expect to ever win a second one; I am very grateful to the three poetry editors of this year’s volume for selecting my piece.”
Green also published her second collection of poems earlier this year. The Pushchart anthology will he released on Dec. 2.
