The St. Cloud State University Alumni Association has selected Marty Mjelleli ’08 as its 2015-16 Graduate of the Last Decade (GOLD) Award recipient for his outstanding achievement in his career, and his service to the university and his community.
Mjelleli graduated cum laude from St. Cloud State with a double major in business marketing and communication studies. During his time at St. Cloud State, he played on the Huskies men’s hockey team that went to the WCHA Final Five three times and twice to the NCAA tournament. Mjelleli was a three time WCHA All-Academic team member, earned 2008 NCAA Hockey Humanitarian recognition and was a finalist for the Lowe’s Senior Class All-American Award.

After graduation, Mjelleli played professional hockey for the Johnstown Chiefs of the East Coast Hockey League. He also spent time playing in Europe in the Netherlands and Germany. In the 2011-12 season he was the head coach in the United States Hockey League (USHL) for the Des Moines Buccaneers, and in 2015 he was inducted into the Buccaneers’ Hall of Fame as a player.
Mjelleli authored a book about the history of hockey at St. Cloud State entitled “St. Cloud State Hockey: Guts, Goals and Glory” to help preserve the vivid history of Huskies hockey through vintage photos, stats and stories, and has recently taken ownership of a State Farm agency in Minnetonka.
Mjellieli will be honored during Fall Celebrate Sept. 15-17.
