There are some new faces visiting the St. Cloud State Library this September, and not all of them are incoming freshmen and transfer students.

The Great River Regional Library in St. Cloud has been closed since a fire damaged the building’s second floor Aug. 18.
Since that time, the library’s patrons have been seeking services elsewhere and some have been finding their way to the St. Cloud State Library in the James W. Miller Learning Resources Center. At the library they’ve been finding a chance to use the computers, read a newspaper, ask a question of a reference librarian or read a book, said Keith Ewing, interim dean of Learning Resources Services.
“Libraries are about people — people with questions or simply looking for a place to read the news, and librarians who assist with solutions or recommendations,” he said.
The St. Cloud State Library’s primary mission is serving the students of St. Cloud State, but as a state-funded library it is open to the public and offers community library cards, he said.
The University Library houses more than 2.5 million items and offers access to more than 22,000 periodicals and 250,000 U.S. government publications.
In addition to welcoming Central Minnesota library patrons, the St. Cloud State Library has offered its assistance to Great River Regional Library in any way needed.
The library is still assessing damages and its needs for cleanup and repairs. Once those assessments are completed, our staff has volunteered to help in any way they can, Ewing said.
“While our services and resource are focused on the needs of students and faculty, we serve the larger community as well,” he said. “From our perspective a member of our family, the St. Cloud Public Library, is hurting and we are here to help them however we can.”
Parking is $1.50 per hour in the Husky Pay Lot and in the 4th Avenue Parking Ramp.
