When Regulatory Affairs and Services (RAS) graduate student Dan Griggs ’13 was offered a job with the British Standards Institute with a semester left before graduation, the program’s remote-learning feature allowed him to relocate, start his new job and not miss-a-beat toward graduation.
Griggs is a business development manager for the British Standards Institute representing the British Ministry of Health in the San Francisco Bay area.
“The remote studies feature of the St. Cloud State RAS program permitted me to move to San Francisco and complete my last semester via distance-learning,” Griggs said. “I was able to join my fellow students and actively participate in lectures and activities via Adobe Connect — completing my program, without interruption and on time.”
Griggs joined the RAS program in 2009 after being laid-off during the Great Recession, he credits the program with introducing him to a new industry and career prospects.

“I can say unequivocally the St. Cloud State Regulatory Affairs and Service (M.S.) program delivered big-time,” he said. “This program, together with my business experience, vaulted me into an entirely new industry, today representing the E.U. regulatory authority and the Medical Device Directive.”
For him the breakthrough class was International Regulatory Affairs Pathways, which introduced him to regulatory structures used internationally and their differences from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulatory structure in the United States.
“We’ve come a long way from 2009, a new career where every day the work is demanding, meaningful and rewarding,” he said. “The St. Cloud State RAS program changed my life and to the faculty, program director and to St. Cloud State University, I am deeply grateful.”
