This fall, the Women on Wednesday series examines the ways in which women use creative methods to effect change.
Using a gender-based lens, “Mapping the Landscapes: Women Creating Change” seeks to highlight the ways women harness art and other creative outlets as social change agents to transform the world. The series is presented by the Women’s Center at St. Cloud State University.
The fall series opens at noon Sept. 13, in the Atwood Theatre in Atwood Memorial Center, with “From night club to pop culture: Drag and how it’s changing gender norms,” a presentation by Trixie Del Mar and student Shae May. The presentation is moderated by Seth Kaempfer, director of the LGBT Resource Center at St. Cloud State.
The session looks at drag as an art form that is a creative expression of gender and cultural resistance as well as a celebration of femininity. It includes a performance and the history and varied perspectives on drag.
Del Mar has been performing in drag since 2010. She got her start in drag at St. Cloud State’s student drag show and now performs throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota.
May is a student at St. Cloud State and a member of the Drag Troupe on campus. May has been performing since early 2016 and has performed at the semi-annual drag show at St. Cloud State and at amateur shows in the Twin Cities under the stage name Peter Pansexual.

The noon-hour Women on Wednesday lecture series put on by the St. Cloud State University Women’s Center brings diverse women and programming to St. Cloud State to cover political, social, legal and economic issues affecting women’s lives. Lectures are held on select Wednesdays at noon in the Atwood Theatre in the Atwood Memorial Center. Admission is free and open to the public.
