An organization that gives back to campus and the community and a student leader who has held leadership roles in Kappa Phi Omega and College Panhellenic Council are St. Cloud State University’s Student Org Award winners for January.
Bebe Wayi earned the Outstanding Member Award. Wayi is a member of both Kappa Phi Omega (KPI) and College Panhellenic Council (CPC). She has gone above and beyond to support both organizations and has taken leadership roles in both. She has held the No More Chair in KPO and organized a week full of events to support Anna Marie’s Alliance and the Fight Against Domestic Violence. In her leadership roles with CPC she has held Scholastic Sessions with Chapter Scholastics chairs and has helped all Greek Life to raise their overall GPA above the all-campus GPA for the first time in many years.
Students Taking Action in Recovery and Service (STARS) earned the Student Organization Award. STARS has worked with the Recovery Community to reach out to the St. Cloud community and give back to campus in many ways. The group has hosted the annual Opioid Awareness Week, Narcan Training, Recovery Ally Training, Run Walk for Recovery 5K and the second annual Recovery Innovations Breakfast, among other initiatives.
They have also invited prospective students from local sober high schools to attend hockey games with current students, held a Thanksgiving Potluck and invited people from local treatment centers, and most recently started a giving tree in the Recovery Resource Center. This giving tree provided campus with a way to give back to families at the Journey Home in Sauk Rapids for the holiday season. The effort raised over $200 dollars and collected close to 100 gifts for 30 families.
This opportunity brought together students, faculty, staff and the local community to show the power of connection and positively making a difference.
