Associate Professor Kelly Jameson is the holder of the Minnesota Chair in Real Estate at St. Cloud State University. Jameson is an associate professor of Finance and Real Estate and alumna of the St. Cloud State Real Estate Program.
The Minnesota Chair in Real Estate was established in 1980 at St. Cloud State University as the first endowed professorship in the Minnesota State system and was first held by George Karvel. The endowed position was funded by charitable gifts to the St. Cloud State University Foundation from the Minnesota Association of Realtors, the Minnesota Department of Commerce and the State of Minnesota. Jameson is taking over the role from Dr. Steven Mooney, who retired in 2019 after holding the chair for more than 20 years.
Jameson spent 15 years in the real estate industry before transitioning to teaching full time at St. Cloud State in 2013. She served as Vice President of Development for the St. Paul Port Authority from 2007-2013, where she redeveloped industrial Brownfield sites into new business centers and managed the river shipping harbor, a property manager for Welsh Companies and United Properties, managing a portfolio of office, industrial and retail properties in the Twin Cities. Jameson joined the St. Cloud State campus community as an adjunct professor in 2005. She is a proud Husky as a graduate of the St. Cloud State Real Estate program and holds an MBA from the University of Minnesota.
In addition to teaching at St. Cloud State, Jameson is involved in a variety of industry organizations where she sits on boards, teaches continuing education courses, and writes articles for industry newsletters. She is faculty advisor to the Student Real Estate Association and leads a student competition/independent study through National Association of Office and Industrial Properties each year.
She has published articles in the Journal of Property Management and won a manuscript prize from American Real Estate Society for Best Real Estate Education Paper. Jameson is an original member and part of the steering committee for the Commercial Real Estate Diversity Collaborative, which has a mission to grow and promote diversity and inclusion in the Commercial Real Estate Industry in the Twin Cities. She also belongs to an Intercultural Coaching Circle through True North Intercultural which integrates diversity and intercultural teaching and learning.
St. Cloud State is one of two universities in Minnesota that offer a real estate major and the only public university. The program offers practical, real-world experience that prepares graduates to succeed as a leader in the high-demand, high-paying real estate industry. A survey of program alumni shows the median income in 2019 was $117,000. The program has an active alumni network of more than 480 graduates and robust external partnerships with industry organizations that connect students with industry professionals and one-on-one mentorship and support.
