The St. Cloud State University Athletics department honored the men’s hockey team’s historic season and run to the NCAA Division I Men’s Hockey Frozen Four on April 14 on Herb Brooks Way outside the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
Fans in attendance enjoyed a variety of giveaways and beverages courtesy of Viking Coca-Cola and a video board showing pictures of fans and highlight clips.
The event was hosted by Jim Erickson and featured speeches from President Robbyn Wacker, Director of Athletics Heather Weems, St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis, Men’s Hockey Head Coach Brett Larson and players Spencer Meier and Kevin Fitzgerald.
The Huskies can take pride in their outstanding 2020-21 season. St. Cloud State, which finished with 20 wins on the year, posted a 6-3 record in the pod to start the season, then spent the second half of the season proving how dominant the team can be, finishing second in the NCHC.
After that, the Huskies advanced to the NCHC Frozen Faceoff Championship game, earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament, and won the Northeast Regional Tournament. The team made the Frozen Four for the second time and reached the NCAA National Championship Game for the first time in program history after defeating Minnesota State University, Mankato and then falling to University of Massachusetts at Amherst in the National Championship Game.
