St. Cloud State University will host the regional competition for National History Day on Saturday, March 23. In collaboration with the Minnesota Historical Society (MNHS) and area schools, students, teachers and their families will descend upon the SCSU campus to learn more about history, research and pivotal points in history.
This year’s competition will feature nearly 200 students from nine schools, competing in grades 6-12. Students have worked with teachers, SCSU student mentors, MNHS staff and others to develop projects pertaining to this year’s theme “Turning Points in History.”
On display will be 60 exhibits, 19 documentaries, 12 performances and 25 websites. If you plan on attending, the best time to see exhibits, documentaries and performances is between 9-11 a.m. in Atwood Memorial Center.
President Robbyn Wacker will welcome students and families at 1 p.m. in Ritsche Auditorium, and MNHS staff will present awards to students in the different categories. SCSU has hosted the contest for over 25 years, and the National History Day competition is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
